Kinusaiga
What is a Kinusaiga textile panel?
Kinusaiga is a Japanese craft technique that involves creating pictures by tucking pieces of fabric into grooves cut into a board of extruded polystyrene.
The result: crisp, graphic shapes, subtle relief, and the living texture of the fabric on top of it all.
I make one-of-a-kind pieces or small series, with exclusive patterns and fabrics, ready to hang at home and add a touch of originality.
Want to try the technique yourself? My discovery kit lets you make your first picture at home, in an evening.
Would you rather be guided? I run small-group workshops (six people maximum, 2.5 hours, €40 per person, snack on the house), with ready-made patterns and selected fabrics... or your own fabric. All the details and next dates on kinusaiga-sentimental.fr.
Finally, I make fully bespoke Kinusaiga pictures: pattern, size, colour palette, fabric layout, everything is decided together. If the idea speaks to you, let's talk it through during a discovery call.
For you, it's a way to turn your sentimental fabrics into a genuine work of art to display: a babywearing wrap, a scarf, a childhood fabric... cut, rearranged, framed. The fabric is no longer tucked away in a cupboard: it's showcased, on the wall.
How do I look after it?
A wipe with a cloth now and then, and that's about all there is to do. As with any textile, avoid hanging it in direct sunlight.
Kits
Will my kit look exactly like the photo?
Not exactly, and that's on purpose. The photo shows the intention: the colours and the mood of the pattern. If it's a red flower on a green background, you'll get red and green fabrics, but not necessarily the ones in the photo.
My kits are made from offcuts of my own creations (never from custom orders) and from dormant stock. These are limited quantities that can't be bought again. So from one kit to the next, the shades can vary. As a rule, I avoid swapping a plain fabric for a patterned one (or the other way round): they're not interchangeable, it changes how the design reads. But depending on the interpretation of the pattern, it can happen.
Each kit is put together by hand in my workshop, not in a factory: no two kits are ever quite identical.
For the same reason, some colourways of a pattern may disappear when a fabric runs out, and some patterns may one day no longer be offered at all... so if one catches your eye, don't wait too long! ;)
What do I need, besides the kit?
A pair of scissors. Everything else is in the box: the board and its adhesives, the pattern, the matching fabrics and the edging ribbon, the back with its hanger, and the tools (a double-ended tucking tool and a precision cutter, with spare blades).
Add a corner of a table and about 3 hours ahead of you, and off you go.
I've never done this. Is that a problem?
Not at all, no experience needed: the instructions and the video tutorial (both in French) walk you through it step by step.
The gestures are simple: you score the grooves of the design, then tuck the edges of each piece of fabric into them with the tucking tool. The rest is patience.
How long does it take?
Allow about 3 hours, from bare board to a picture ready to hang.
It also depends on your pace: it's slow and precise, and that's exactly what makes Kinusaiga so calming.
From what age?
16: the box contains sharp and pointed tools, including a precision cutter.
To introduce someone younger to Kinusaiga, there are parent-and-child workshops, on request.
What about a second picture?
The Refill Kit: the base is €12.90 (the board, its adhesives and the back with its hanger), and you pick the pattern à la carte, on its own or with its fabrics.
You can also take the pattern on its own and use your own fabrics. And if you're missing a tool, it's available as an option on the same page.
Can I get a kit made just for me?
Yes! I can customise a kit, for you or for your business, your shop or your event.
Tell me what you have in mind (the occasion, how many kits, your pattern idea), and let's talk.
Is there a frame?
By default, there isn't one.
With the kit or my “ready-to-hang” pieces, your picture is finished along the edges with a ribbon and hangs by the plate on its back: it arrives ready to go on the wall.
If you feel like framing it anyway, you can use any shop-bought frame in the right size. I have references if you need them.
With bespoke, two more options are open to you:
- with a frame you're attached to, which becomes the starting point of your project;
- with one of my vintage thrifted frames, in all styles and sizes.
Workshops
Can I bring my own fabric to the workshop?
Yes! A garment, a scarf, an offcut you love: bring it along, and we'll look together at what it can become in your picture.
And if you don't have any, I provide everything, with fabrics selected for each pattern.
A workshop just for my group?
Yes, on quote: hen party, new baby, birthday, girls' night, couples, parent and child or team building.
Tell me what you're planning (the date, the number of people). And if someone in the group has a workshop gift voucher, it comes off the price.
Bespoke

How much fabric do you need?
Far less than you think. On a small format, a few pieces are enough, and they can come from different parts of the garment. It's the drawing that decides, not the surface area. And if there isn't enough, I have fabrics to fill in. Send me a photo and I'll tell you.
What exactly do you cut?
Only what's needed for the zones of the drawing, with a little margin: the excess disappears into the groove, and some is needed to cover the top of the edges. Everything else comes back to you. And nothing is cut before you've approved the drawing and signed the quote.

What if I don't like the result?
You approve the drawing before I touch anything, and you can follow along in photos while I work. That said, once the fabric is inlaid, there's no going back: that's why we take our time beforehand.

Delivery
What are the delivery timeframes?
All orders (excluding custom orders) are shipped within 24 hours (excl. weekends and public holidays), carefully packed and tracked.
The delivery time then depends on the chosen shipping method (Mondial Relay or Colissimo) and the delivery location (France or abroad). Delays may occur due to reasons beyond my control (e.g., related to the carrier).
How can I track my order?
You will receive an email upon shipment containing the tracking number and a link. Of course, you can contact me at any time if you have questions.
Can I change my delivery address?
It is sometimes possible to change a delivery address as long as the order has not been shipped. To do so, please contact me as soon as possible via hello@kinusaiga-sentimental.fr or by phone at +33(0)661356222.
Once your order has been shipped, it is no longer possible to make changes. In that case, you will need to contact the selected carrier as soon as possible (but with no guarantee of results).
My package is lost/I haven't received my order… what should I do?
Contact me as soon as possible via hello@kinusaiga-sentimental.fr or by phone at +33(0)661356222.
How do you ship?
Within mainland France, you can choose between Colissimo home delivery and a Mondial Relay pickup point, from €4.90 depending on weight. To Monaco, it's Colissimo. To the French overseas territories, shipping follows Colissimo rates.
The workshop gift voucher doesn't travel: it arrives by email, as a PDF.
Do you ship internationally?
For now, Kinusaiga ships to France (overseas territories included) and Monaco.
Other European Union countries aren't served at the moment. And further away, shipping would cost more than the kit itself.
You live elsewhere and it's calling you? Email me at hello@kinusaiga-sentimental.fr.
Returns
How can I return an item, and what are the maximum return timeframes?
In accordance with Article L. 221-18 of the French Consumer Code, you have 14 days after receiving the item to withdraw from your purchase, without having to give a reason. This right does not apply to made-to-order creations (Essentials, bespoke pieces, bespoke Kinusaiga artworks, personalised mirrors), which are of course still covered by the legal warranties.
For an order placed on the website, submit your request on the withdrawal page. For an order placed another way, email me at hello@kinusaiga-sentimental.fr. You then have 14 days to send the item back, at your own expense.
And if something isn't right, feel free to talk to me about it by phone too, at +33(0)661356222: we may find a solution together.
For more information, please refer to the Terms and Conditions.
Can I return a discounted product?
Sales are rare on the site, but regardless, a discounted item (either temporarily or permanently, like the “Near Perfect” items) enjoys the same guarantees as any other item. Therefore, you can refer to the previous answer and the relevant section in the Terms and Conditions for more information.
What are the refund reception procedures?
I refund everything you paid, including the initial delivery costs (at the standard rate), no later than 14 days after your withdrawal request, using the same payment method as your order. I may wait until I have received the item, or proof that you have sent it back, before making the refund.
Commitment and guarantee
What should I do if my order is damaged?
If your package arrives damaged, please report it to the carrier upon receipt by issuing a reservation. If it is severely damaged, you can also refuse it, and it will be returned to me.
Then, contact me as soon as possible via email at hello@kinusaiga-sentimental.fr or by phone at +33(0)661356222.
How do I look after it?
A wipe with a cloth now and then, and that's about all there is to do. As with any textile, avoid hanging it in direct sunlight.
